Linear is the editing of film so the old fashioned very time consuming and laborious way of cutting the film and the n the sound and splicing it all together with tape this is linear. So Non-Linear is the digital world of editing taking your rushes and importing them into your editing system and editing them together and manipulating the clips to get the final product.
Triple point editing is something that I didn't think I would need to use much as i liked to do it manually however it has its purpose it is when you are putting in and out points on your timeline as well as on the clip that you want to edit in this will then edit over anything that you might already have on your timeline or will trim back a clip if it is in the space that you have marked with your in and out points this is a very good way of editing if you have a space to fill but you do not want to ruin your time frame and you have a certain space to fill the video clip below demonstrated this a lot better than I could ever verbally demonstrate and so this is going to e my example.
Trimming, slipping and sliding is all to do with cutting and manipulating the footage that you already have on your timeline I have prepared a couple of screenshots showing me doing this in avid however i have also found a YouTube tutorial that also explains the process very well also (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2r1o_QLyhYw) . So trimming, slipping and sliding are used to manipulate the shots that you have down on your timeline as I said previously, this is where you can use buttons in Avid to trim down and add to two clips that you have on your timeline so say you wanted a your first clip to end later but the lip next to that to begin sooner you would take the time from the clip in front and add time to the clip behind editing the time however not changing the time of the overall product.
