Manipulating time and space In a film is used to show that a significant amount of time has passed in a say the space of 3 minutes in a film. they do this by showing say little snippets of time, say each day maybe for each activity such as in the Karate Kid when he is training up there is a montage of clips that show each progression of his training; from running The Great wall of China, to facing his coach in sparing matches. These activities and progressions in the film take 'months' for the character to learn however we se it in a few minutes, this also gives the editors and producers more time in the film, for other sections of the film that are more important to the story line. Rather than seeing a fifteen minute show reel of the different training days that occurred in the little montage.
