Editing shots and combining them to make a sequence is a very simple thing to do, you put the shots together to make the sequence, you will know when an edit is successful because the audience is not to notice the edits that you have edited together. For instance you could have a juxtaposition where the two shots that you have put together in a montage format then becomes a sequence due to the fact that the editor could have found the link between the two things; and so for instance you could have a clip of people rioting, and the an clip of a really rough sea and so then the link between the two could be that the rioters are a tough and strong as the rough sea, so then there's your link and the shots stop becoming shots of their own and become your sequence.
