creating pace

Creating Pace is when you have a film or television programme and the editing slows or quickens the pace of the film, depending on what effect the editor wants the shots to give the audience. For instance you see this a lot in action films where you'll get a scene where there is a big chase/fight and so the editing is very fast paced and snappy to give the audience a scene of urgency and thrill. Then you get that one shot that is elongated maybe the character is hiding around a corner and so everything slows down but then, BAM, it all starts up again and so you get the pace of those scenes that helps keep the audience interested and on the edge of their seats.

for instance the clip above from The Pirates of The Caribbean The Curse of The Black Pearl is he scene in which Jack kills his arch enemy but the pace changes whenever they stop sword fighting to goad each other and so therefore creating the pace and keeping the audience on the edges of their seats.
