Continuity

Continuity is a term used in the media industry for making sure that you are convincing the audience that what they are watching is real, and so taking away the sense that they are watching the scenes play out right in front of them.
continuity editing is  the main type of editing that is used in film and television today as the purpose of it is make the edits look invisible so that the illusion of 'real life' is created.

The video you see above is a programme called Greatest Movie Mistakes, this is an excellent example of why continuity is vital when it comes to making the scenes look real and life like, especially in the time frame of 4.40 this section also gives a brief description of what continuity is.
