Cutting To Sound

Cutting to sound is a bit like editing to rhythm however instead of not having to worry about cutting to the beat of the music that is underneath the music like cutting to rhythm you have to make sure that the edits cut along with the beat of the song. So for instance you see this a lot with music videos, where you will have a rock song with a really heavy beat, and unless the whole point of editing off the beats was to make the audience Feel disorientated, which is what some bands like to do as it makes the audience feel as if they are 'tripping', than you would have the song beats be used to cut between shots; as you couldn't use 'fluffy' dissolve edits when the beat is strong and prominent as it wouldn't seem right and would look wrong.
The music video for Nickelback's song Leader Of Men is a very good example of a rocky song that cuts on the beat giving it a very strong emphasis on the beat and giving the songs power and meaning more stance.
